Zenith revising: costs, procedure, and guarantee

Is your Zenith no longer keeping accurate time, has the power reserve shortened, or do you not know when the watch was last serviced? Then it is advisable to have the movement checked.

After receipt and technical inspection, we will assess which work is needed. You will receive a clear price estimate first. Only after your approval will we start the revision or repair.

During a complete Zenith revision, the mechanical movement is disassembled, cleaned, inspected, lubricated, and adjusted. We also check the overall functioning of the watch and, where applicable, the seals and waterproofing.

Do you want to know what your Zenith needs? Send us the model number, a description of the issue, and some clear photos. Based on that, we can give an initial assessment and price indication.

Zenith revision, repair, or maintenance?

Revision, repair, and maintenance are often used interchangeably, but they do not mean the same thing. The type of treatment needed depends on the technical condition of the watch.

ServiceWhen is it needed?Tasks
RevisionIn case of wear, multiple complaints, or extensive maintenanceThe movement is completely disassembled, cleaned, inspected, lubricated, reassembled, and regulated
RepairIn case of a clear defectInvestigating the problem and repairing or replacing the defective part
Maintenance/serviceFor inspection and preventive maintenanceChecking functionality, accuracy, power reserve, and overall condition

In a Zenith repair, it could be about a poorly functioning crown, deviating accuracy, a problem with the date, or a defective part in the movement.

Not every complaint means that a complete revision is necessary. After the technical inspection, we determine which tasks are appropriate.

What does a Zenith revision cost?

The cost of a Zenith revision depends on the model, the caliber used, the technical condition of the watch, and any parts that need to be replaced.

A simple mechanical watch, for example, requires a different treatment than a chronograph with multiple functions.

After receipt and technical inspection, you will receive a final quotation. We will only start the work after you have agreed to it.

Would you like a preliminary estimate? Then send the model number and a few clear photos of the watch.

Which Zenith problems do we repair?

A Zenith can malfunction for various reasons. We investigate the following complaints:

  • the watch is running too fast or too slow;
  • the watch has stopped;
  • the power reserve has decreased;
  • the watch winds up difficultly;
  • the crown is not functioning properly;
  • the date switches incorrectly;
  • the chronograph is not functioning correctly;
  • the movement is making an unusual sound;
  • there is moisture or condensation under the glass;
  • the watch has experienced a fall or hard hit;
  • a component in the movement is worn out or defective.

If there is moisture or condensation in the watch, it is advisable to have the watch checked as soon as possible. Moisture can damage components of the movement.

When does a Zenith need maintenance?

There is not one fixed maintenance moment that is the same for every Zenith watch. The model, the movement, the age, the usage, and previous maintenance all play a role.

Have your Zenith checked when you notice that:

  • the watch is clearly running too fast or too slow;
  • the power reserve has decreased;
  • the watch regularly stops;
  • the winding is stiff;
  • the crown does not function properly;
  • the date or chronograph is having issues;
  • there is moisture or condensation visible;
  • the watch has received a hard knock;
  • it is not known when the last maintenance was performed.

Even when the watch still seems to function normally, lubricants in the movement can age over time.

This is how a Zenith revision proceeds

1. Request with model and photos

You send us the model number, a description of the issue, and several clear photos of the watch. If known, you can also indicate when the watch was last serviced.

2. Initial assessment and price indication

Based on the information, we will determine what work is likely needed. This allows us to provide an initial estimate.

3. Receipt and technical inspection

After receipt, the watch will be technically checked. We assess the functioning of the movement, accuracy, power reserve, and any damage.

4. Final price quote

After the inspection, you will receive a clear price quotation detailing the work we recommend. We will only proceed after your approval.

5. Disassembly and cleaning

When a full revision is necessary, the movement will be removed from the case and disassembled. The parts are cleaned separately to remove dirt and old lubricants.

6. Inspection and repair

The parts are checked for wear and damage. Parts that are no longer functioning properly will be repaired or replaced whenever possible.

7. Lubrication, assembly, and adjustment

The movement is re-lubricated and assembled. It is then carefully adjusted to achieve good and stable performance.

8. Final check

After the work is completed, we check the accuracy, power reserve, and overall functioning of the watch. If applicable, the seals and water resistance are also checked.

9. Return

Once all checks are completed, the watch can be returned or picked up as agreed.

Experience with various Zenith models

Over the years, Zenith has released various mechanical movements, chronographs, and collections. Therefore, the required work may vary by model.

A request may relate to models from collections such as:

  • Zenith Chronomaster;
  • Zenith Defy;
  • Zenith Pilot;
  • Zenith Elite;
  • Zenith El Primero;
  • older and vintage Zenith watches.

For older and vintage examples, we check in advance what parts are available and what work is technically possible.

When submitting an older Zenith watch, please include as much information as possible, such as the reference number, photos, and known service history.

Frequently asked questions about revising Zenith

What does it cost to revise a Zenith?

The costs depend on the model, the caliber, the technical condition, and any parts that need to be replaced. After inspection, you will receive a final quote.

How long does a Zenith revision take?

The turnaround time depends on the work involved and the availability of any parts. After inspection, we can indicate how much time is expected to be needed.

How often does a Zenith need maintenance?

This varies by watch. Age, type of movement, usage, and previous maintenance all play a role. When the watch runs less accurately, has a shorter power reserve, or shows other problems, a check is advisable.

What is the difference between repair and revision?

A repair focuses on a specific complaint or a defective part. In a complete revision, the entire mechanical movement is disassembled, cleaned, checked, lubricated, reassembled, and regulated.

Can you also revise Zenith El Primero watches?

You can submit a Zenith El Primero to us for assessment. First, we will examine the exact model, caliber, and technical condition. Then we can indicate which work is possible and necessary.

Can you also repair vintage Zenith watches?

Older Zenith watches can also be submitted for assessment. For vintage models, the availability of parts can play an important role.

Is my Zenith tested for water resistance?

If the specific model is suitable for that, gaskets and water resistance can be checked. The possibilities depend on the watch and the condition of the case, crown, and other parts.

Will I receive a quote in advance?

Yes. After a technical inspection, you will first receive a quote. We will only start after you have agreed to the proposed work.

How do I submit my Zenith?

Please contact us in advance for the current submission options. When shipping, the watch should be well protected and a suitable insured shipping method is recommended.
