Zenith revising: costs, procedure, and warranty

Is your Zenith no longer running accurately, has the power reserve shortened, or do you not know when the watch was last serviced? Then it is wise to have the movement checked.

After receipt and technical inspection, we will determine what work is needed. You will first receive a clear price quote. Only after your approval will we start the revision or repair.

During a complete Zenith revision, the mechanical movement is disassembled, cleaned, inspected, lubricated, and recalibrated. We also check the general functioning of the watch and, if applicable, the gaskets and water resistance.

Do you want to know what your Zenith needs? Send us the model number, a description of the issue, and several clear photos. Based on that, we can provide an initial assessment and price indication.

Zenith revision, repair, or maintenance?

Revision, repair, and maintenance are often used interchangeably but do not mean the same thing. What treatment is needed depends on the technical condition of the watch.

ServiceWhen is it needed?Tasks
RevisionIn case of wear, multiple complaints, or extensive maintenanceFully disassemble, clean, inspect, lubricate, reassemble, and regulate the movement
RepairIn case of a clear defectInvestigate the problem and repair or replace the defective part
Maintenance/serviceFor inspection and preventive maintenanceCheck functionality, accuracy, power reserve, and overall condition

In a Zenith repair, it may involve issues such as a poorly functioning crown, deviating accuracy, a problem with the date, or a defective component in the movement.

Not every complaint means a complete revision is necessary. After the technical inspection, we determine which tasks are appropriate.

What does a Zenith revision cost?

The costs of a Zenith revision depend on the model, the caliber used, the technical condition of the movement, and any parts that need to be replaced.

For example, a simple mechanical movement requires a different treatment than a chronograph with multiple functions.

After receipt and technical inspection, you will receive a final quote. We will only begin work after you have agreed to this.

If you want a preliminary estimate, please send the model number and a few clear photos of the watch.

  • professional cleaning of the parts;
  • inspection for wear and damage;
  • replacement or repair of parts as needed;
  • lubrication of the movement;
  • reassembly of the movement;
  • adjustment of accuracy;

What Zenith problems do we repair?

A Zenith may malfunction for various reasons. We investigate the following issues among others:

  • the watch runs too fast or too slow;
  • the watch has stopped;
  • the power reserve has decreased;
  • the watch winds difficultly;
  • the crown does not function properly;
  • the date does not switch correctly;
  • the chronograph does not operate correctly;
  • the movement makes an unusual sound;
  • there is moisture or condensation under the glass;
  • the watch has experienced a fall or hard impact;
  • a part in the movement is worn or defective.

If there is moisture or condensation in the watch, it is advisable to have the watch checked as soon as possible. Moisture can damage parts of the movement.

When does a Zenith need maintenance?

There is not one fixed maintenance interval that is the same for every Zenith watch. The model, the movement, the age, the usage, and previous maintenance activities all play a role.

Have your Zenith checked when you notice that:

  • the watch runs clearly too fast or too slow;
  • the power reserve is reduced;
  • the watch stops regularly;
  • the winding is stiff;
  • the crown does not function properly;
  • the date or chronograph has issues;
  • moisture or condensation is visible;
  • the watch has received a hard shock;
  • it is unknown when the last maintenance was performed.

Even when the watch still seems to function normally, lubricants in the movement can deteriorate over time.

This is how a Zenith revision proceeds

1. Request with model and photos

You send us the model number, a description of the issue, and some clear photos of the watch. When known, you can also indicate when the watch was last serviced.

2. Initial assessment and price indication

Based on the information, we will look at which work will probably be necessary. This allows us to give a first indication.

3. Receipt and technical inspection

After receipt, the watch is technically inspected. We assess the functioning of the movement, accuracy, power reserve, and any damage.

4. Final quote

After the inspection, you will receive a clear quote with the work we recommend. We will only start after your approval.

5. Disassembly and cleaning

When a full revision is required, the movement is removed from the case and disassembled. The parts are cleaned separately to remove dirt and old lubricants.

6. Inspection and repair

The parts are checked for wear and damage. Parts that no longer function well are repaired or replaced when possible.

7. Lubrication, assembly, and regulation

The movement is lubricated and reassembled. Then it is carefully regulated to achieve good and stable functioning.

8. Final inspection

After the work is completed, we check, among other things, the accuracy, power reserve, and overall functioning of the watch. Where applicable, the seals and water resistance are also checked.

9. Return

When all inspections are completed, the watch can be returned or picked up as agreed.

Experience with various Zenith models

Over the years, Zenith has released various mechanical movements, chronographs, and collections. The required work can therefore vary per model.

A request may relate to models from collections such as:

  • Zenith Chronomaster;
  • Zenith Defy;
  • Zenith Pilot;
  • Zenith Elite;
  • Zenith El Primero;
  • older and vintage Zenith watches.

For older and vintage models, we will check in advance which parts are available and what work is technically possible.

Please include as much information as possible with an older Zenith watch, such as the reference number, photos, and known service history.

Frequently asked questions about reviewing Zenith

What does it cost to service a Zenith?

The costs depend on the model, the caliber, the technical condition, and any parts that need to be replaced. After inspection, you will receive a final quote.

How long does a Zenith service take?

The turnaround time depends on the work required and the availability of any parts. After inspection, we can indicate how much time is expected to be needed.

How often does a Zenith require maintenance?

This varies per watch. The age, type of movement, usage, and previous maintenance play a role in this. When the watch runs less accurately, has a shorter power reserve, or shows other issues, it is wise to have it checked.

What is the difference between repair and service?

A repair is aimed at a specific complaint or a defective part. In a complete service, the entire mechanical movement is disassembled, cleaned, inspected, lubricated, reassembled, and regulated.

Can you also service Zenith El Primero watches?

You can submit a Zenith El Primero for assessment. First, we will examine the exact model, caliber, and technical condition. After that, we can indicate what work is possible and necessary.

Can you also repair vintage Zenith watches?

Older Zenith watches can also be submitted for assessment. For vintage models, the availability of parts can play an important role.

Will my Zenith be tested for water resistance?

If the model is suited for it, seals and water resistance can be checked. The possibilities depend on the watch and the condition of the case, crown, and other parts.

Will I receive a quote in advance?

Yes. After a technical inspection, you will first receive a quote. We will only start once you have agreed to the proposed work.

How do I deliver my Zenith?

Please contact us in advance for current delivery options. If shipping, the watch should be packed securely, and a suitable insured shipping method is recommended.
